Privacy Policy
Last updated
AppScreenshoot is a screenshot studio that mostly runs inside your browser. This policy says what leaves your device, why it leaves, who holds it afterwards, and how to get it back or removed. It covers this website, the studio, templates, saved projects and paid plans. Our Cookies Policy covers browser storage in more detail.
Who is responsible for your data
AppScreenshoot is operated by its founder, Rico, who acts as the data controller for the information described here. The one address everything goes to is hello@appscreenshoot.com — privacy questions, data requests, deletion, anything else. There is no separate data protection officer; write to that address and it reaches the person who runs the product.
What we collect
If you only browse or work locally
You can browse templates, edit a draft and export files without an account. In that case the design work itself stays on your device: drafts live in your browser's local storage and imported images in IndexedDB. What we do receive is ordinary technical data — your IP address as part of every request, browser and device details, and the pages you visit — through Cloudflare, which delivers the site, and the analytics tools below.
If you create an account
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We receive your email address, display name and profile picture if the sign-in method provides them, the method you used (such as Google or Apple), and a user identifier. Clerk holds the authentication records, session data and security checks for your account.
If you save projects
Saving a project uploads what that project needs to render: the design document (text, layout, colours, settings), the screenshots and images you imported, and brand assets you add. Saved work is stored in our own database and object storage on Cloudflare, tied to your user identifier, and read back only for the signed-in owner.
If you buy Pro
Checkout and card handling are Stripe's. Your payment card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never reach our servers — we do not store, see or receive full card numbers. What we keep on our side is a subscription record: Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, the billing interval (monthly or annual), the status, and the current period end date, so we know when to grant and withdraw Pro access. Stripe also issues the invoice and receipts.
If you contact support
The chat widget on the site is Chatway, so messages you send through it are processed by Chatway as well as by us. Email to hello@appscreenshoot.com and any replies are kept so we can handle the request and refer back to it later.
How your information is used
- To run the studio: render templates, keep your saved projects available across devices, and export the files you ask for.
- To operate accounts: sign you in, protect sessions, and let you delete an account on request.
- To bill you: create the subscription, decide what you have access to, and handle failed payments or cancellations.
- To understand use: which pages and features get used, where people get stuck, which templates matter, and whether a change helped.
- To keep things safe: diagnose errors, spot abuse and automated attacks, and respond when you report a problem.
- To answer you: support conversations and legal or billing requests.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your data, and we do not sell your personal information.
Cookies, local storage and tracking
Needed storage keeps sessions and features working. Beyond that, we use Google Analytics to measure traffic, Amplitude for product analytics, and Hotjar for heatmaps and session recordings.
Be aware of what session replay means: Amplitude and Hotjar can capture a snapshot of the page you are looking at together with clicks, scrolling and pointer movement. Text you type can end up visible in a recording wherever the provider's default masking does not cover it. That is why the studio's own draft content stays in your browser as long as possible, and why payment details are only ever entered on Stripe's pages. You can reopen the consent panel and change these settings at any time from our Cookies Policy — the “Cookie settings” control in the footer is the same panel.
Some fonts in the studio are requested from Google Fonts, which means Google sees your IP address as part of delivering that stylesheet, in the ordinary way any website visit does.
The services that hold your data
Each provider is a separate controller for its own systems, with its own policy: Cloudflare, Clerk, Stripe, Google, Amplitude, Hotjar and Chatway. We use them only for the jobs listed above and do not feed them your payment card details.
Legal grounds we rely on
Where European data protection law applies: performing our agreement with you covers account data, saved projects and billing; your consent covers non-essential analytics, cookies and session replay, and you can withdraw it at any time without affecting work already done; our legitimate interest covers keeping the service secure and running, diagnosing problems, and understanding aggregate product use; and legal obligation covers records we must retain for tax and accounting.
How long we keep things
- Local drafts and images: on your device until you clear them, replace them, or save the project to your account.
- Account data: while your account exists. Deleting it removes the profile and the access records tied to it.
- Saved projects and uploads: until you delete them. Storage tied to a deleted account is removed on request.
- Billing records: subscription records stay as long as your account exists; invoices and receipts are retained for as long as tax law in the relevant country requires.
- Support conversations: long enough to finish handling them and to honor any follow-up.
- Analytics and replay data: held by each provider under its own retention settings; we do not keep a longer copy of it ourselves.
Where your data is processed
Most of the providers above operate from the United States and process data there. When your information leaves the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the standard contractual clauses (with the UK Addendum where relevant) and on each provider's own transfer safeguards. That is not a perfect mechanism, and we list the providers plainly so you can judge it yourself.
Your rights and how to use them
You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and object to decisions based solely on automated processing. In most places you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Send the request to hello@appscreenshoot.com from the address on the account where you can, and say what you want. Some requests you can serve yourself: delete a project in the studio, clear browser storage to wipe local drafts, or export your images. We answer within 30 days, and we will not charge you for a reasonable request. If we cannot do what you ask, we will explain why and tell you about the complaint route that applies to you.
If you are in California, or another US state with privacy law
In the last 12 months we have collected these categories: identifiers (name, email, account and subscription identifiers), commercial information (transactions through Stripe), internet or electronic activity (pages visited, interactions, session replay), and support content you send us. Each category is used for the purposes named above. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of under “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”. You have the same access, deletion, correction, portability and non-discrimination rights; use the email address above and we will verify you by the address on the account.
Children
AppScreenshoot is a tool for app developers and marketers, not for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn that a child's data reached us through an account, contact us and we will remove it.
How we protect information
Everything moves over HTTPS. Saved projects and uploaded assets are private to the signed-in owner and are not publicly listable. Authentication is delegated to Clerk so we never hold your password. We limit what the studio can read back, and we keep backups for recovery rather than for convenience. No service over the internet is perfectly secure, so if you store anything you would hate to lose, keep a copy of your source screenshots too — and we will tell you promptly if a breach ever affects you.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version. When the policy changes in a way that matters, we will update that date and, for significant changes affecting your account or payment, tell you by email or with a notice on the site.
